Trying out the #KylieJennerChallenge

Up to date, Kylie Jenner has been the talk of the town due to her lips -- some even speculating that the young celebrity has had them injected. We all remember the kind of attention Angelina received, and probably still does receive, for hers. I'm not here to point fingers, or try to stress how black women used to get teased for their luscious lips before plump lips suddenly became a trend, or how there's a possibility that miss Jenner may have had some work done on her lips.  However, there's been a recent trend going around on the internet. The #KylieJennerChallenge where, in order to achieve the below look, participants temporarily increase blood flow to their lips -- which in turn causes them to swell -- with small glasses, bottle caps etc:

A lot of the images which are circulating Instagram, showing the results achieved by people who joined the challenge, have been described as very disturbing. Some young participants have even caused themselves great harm to achieve the look (ending up with bruises all around their lips). If you are interested in viewing some of them, click here, but do so at your own risk!

I am very concerned for our young generation and who they look to for inspiration, and as their role models. Perhaps miss Jenner didn't ask to be mimicked, however, this is a common result where popularity is concerned. It's sad that almost nobody delights in being "original" anymore and that people wish to look the same. How are we meant to appreciate the unique qualities of a person if everyone looks exactly the same? It's beyond me.
